Week 5 Learning

I love looking over the week's photos when I do this Friday post. It reminds me of all the fabulous things your child has done over the week. I am so lucky to have a wonderful class who love learning so much. Sometimes I feel like all I've done in a day is a lot of nagging (like today with getting work finished and tidying up after yourself), then I look at the photos and realised that we do actually fit a lot of fun stuff into the day as well.

Some parents would have received an email to ask them to help their child catch up with speech writing. Most of the class got theirs printed out and stuck onto cue cards today. On Monday we will practice presenting them and then share them with the class over Monday and Tuesday so we can select the top two to go through for finals.

Have a lovely weekend.

Welcome to Week 5. We will be halfway through the term at the end of this week!

Most of our learning this week will be Speech Writing and Calendar Art. Our topic is Rotorua - Our Back Yard. The students are researching different aspects of Rotorua (History, Tourism, Future Focus, Influences from other cultures etc) and persuading their audience to think and act in a particular way.

Wednesday

  • Bake Sale for Chess Club (Morning Tea)

Keep an eye out for more information about this worthwhile project this week.

This term we are taking part in Operation Christmas Child. Each class has a shoebox which they will pack with different gifts, prayers, and letters. This will be sent to a child across the world who would not normally receive a gift on Christmas Day. Your child may wish to put a little something special into the box. Look at  “Operation Christmas Child Videos 2022” which has some inspiring videos and ideas.

Week 4 Learning

Congratulations to all the students who took part in the Cultural and Sports Day on Monday. We had a very successful day with lots of events won by the St Mary's Crew. A special thanks to Izac's mum who organised the dress-ups for the hockey team. That certainly swayed the judges to award the Sebastian cup to us!

Most students have started work on their calendar art and speeches this week. Please feel free to help your child with speeches at home. They have lots of information on their drive. Speeches will be presented to the class on Monday and Tuesday in week 6 so they have all of next week to finish and practice them.

The students are enjoying the technology and coding on fridays. I hope you enjoy the  photos.
